Fellow Members,
I need to find some information on a Coast 34/35 sailboat which
was made in BC Canada. I have been able to learn that the vessel was constructed
by Marquis Marine of BC Canada but that is all. I cannot not locate any
additional information on this company or any details as far as its construction
is concerned. The boat is a traditional canoe stern boat GRP. I am trying to
ascertain if the vessel has a cored hull and/or deck and what the core material
is if any. I have exhausted all of the research resources at my disposal with no
luck. Does anyone know anything about it. Any information would be greatly
appreciated.
Fellow members,
I recently conducted an insurance survey on a 1973 Dufour 27 and discovered an
interesting item. This fuse holder was incorporated in what appeared to be a
lightning protection system. One of the back stay chainplate fasteners was
attached to a grounding strap that was fiberglassed into the hull and led to
this fuse holder which had a large fuse, about the size of a 12 gauge shotgun
shell, rated at 400V. The fuse holder was not connected to anything. It is
unknown what the holder was connected to. The vessel did not have a below
waterline grounding plate. The bottom had been sand blasted to bare gel coat and
no signs of there ever being a ground plate on the vessel could be located.
This item was concealed very well near the aft end of the engine compartment
next to a bulkhead. I don't know if this was a factory or after market item. It
was recommended to the client to remove this device and to install a lightning
protection system in accordance with ABYC recommendations, but if anyone has
seen this on a Dufour 27, I would be curious to know how the complete system was
installed.
